Multi Factor SystemThe Taralan MultiFactor System was developed by the late Dr. John Strauss. Dr. Strauss was widely recognized as a leader in crop production technology throughout his career. Using his own and many others' research, Dr. Strauss developed a complex mathematic crop model to analyze and interpret the various crop, climate, soil and cultural practice data on a site-specific basis. Through trial and refinement of his model, Dr. Strauss was able to calculate potential yield and required inputs and practices to achieve a specified yield goal on a site-specific basis with > 90% reliability. Through use of his system, Dr. Strauss demonstrated that farmers were achieving yields and quality far below the potential of their soils and climates. And further, that this unmet yield and quality potential could be realized through more precise management of inputs and practices while reducing the environmental risk associated with improper use of production inputs and practices. In 1972 Dr. Strauss and Jim Malanaphy formed Taralan Corporation to make this potent technology available to farmers across North America. The complexity of the model and vast amounts of data inherent in commercial farming operations necessitated computerization of the model for application on a broad scale. Taralan has continually refined the MultiFactor System to contemplate relevant developments in production technology.
