Software requirements
To access the system you will need an Internet connection, and Microsoft
Internet Explorer 5.0 or greater. To review and print the reports you
will need the following software
• Microsoft Excel
• Adobe Acrobat Reader
Information Requirements
You will need the following information to enter into the system. Without
this information we will be unable to process accurate recommendations.
If you have any questions about what this information is or how to obtain
it please contact us.
1. Last years crop and yield information for each field
2. Basic field information for each field
• County the field is located in
• Field terrain (level, gently rolling, rolling, steep)
• Moisture holding capacity (good, fair, poor)
• Tile Drained (yes, no)
• Soil drainage capability (good, fair, poor)
• Soil Texture (sand, sandy loam, loam, silt loam, clay loam, clay,
muck)
3. Soil test information which must include the following
• Phosphorus – P (ppm) (Specific Olsen, Bray, and P bicarbonate
results will increase the accuracy of the recommendations but are
not necessary)
• Potassium – K (ppm)
• Magnesium – Mg (ppm)
• Calcium – Ca (ppm)
• pH
• Organic Matter – OM (percent)
• Cation Exchange Capacity – CEC
4. Last years fertilizer and manure application information
• Fertilizer – lbs. of nutrient of N, P, and K applied
per acre
• Manure – amount, type, type of application (surface
or incorporated), and nutrient analysis if available
5. This years crop plan
• Crop to be planted
• Yield goal to be achieved – Note: Increasing your yield
is a gradual process. Your yield goal should not be more than 5% over
your past average yields. Please consult with a Taralan Representative
prior to finalizing your yield goals
• Timing of tillage (Fall or Spring)
• Manure application for this crop year. Manure information
should include animal type, storage method, application method and
nutrient test results if available.
